Iran's position in the global steel structure industry

Today, with the expansion of modern factories equipped with modern technology, Iran has gained a special place in the world in the steel structure manufacturing industry. The role of this industry in building and protecting human lives against the country’s frequent earthquakes is very prominent. A review of the performance of standard steel buildings shows how effective these structures have been in reducing earthquake damage. Despite this importance, the steel structure industry, like other industries, has faced problems such as stagnation and neglect. This reveals the need to form an organization to enhance the capacity of factories, reduce production costs, and create a platform for presence in domestic and foreign markets.

Steel Structure Manufacturers Cooperative: A leader in industrial standardization and development

In 2018, the Steel Structure Manufacturers Association’s Supply Cooperative was established with about 20 members. This cooperative was established with the aim of increasing capacities, reducing production costs, and expanding the culture of using standard steel structures. The steel structure manufacturing industry, as one of the most important industries, determines the development of any country, because this industry is the foundation of many parent industries such as oil and petrochemicals, electricity, transportation, rail network, and construction. The industrial revolution has also relied to a large extent on the role of steel and its widespread use. Therefore, development and progress will be meaningless without paying attention to this industry.

From standards to safety; The role of the Kamsi cooperative in improving the quality of buildings

In this regard, Kamsi Cooperative has also been able to promote the culture of using standard steel structures. In cooperation with the National Center for the Certification of Standards of Iran and the General Directorate of Standards of Tehran, this cooperative has introduced units authorized to manufacture standard steel structures and has provided the basis for cooperation with the Engineering System Organization of Tehran Province and the Tehran Municipality. The result of this cooperation has been the issuance of Circulars 10, 11 and 12 of the Engineering System Organization, which require design, supervisory and executive engineers to use standard steel structures. In addition, the Tehran Municipality has also issued a circular to 22 regions, making the acceptance of the completion of the work conditional on the use of standard steel structures.

These measures have led the country’s engineering community towards improving the quality of buildings and, in addition to preventing the waste of financial and human capital, have also led to the elimination of non-specialists from this industry. As a result, Iran’s steel structure industry has been able to take an important step in improving safety and construction standards and protecting this industry from serious harm.
